Terms of purchase

What you buy, what it costs, how it is delivered and what you may use it for.

Version 0.5 (draft) · Last updated 7 September 2026

Draft under completion before commercial launch. The document gets a legal review before real sales begin.

The short version

  • You buy a digital map (3D model and drawing layers) generated from public geodata for the area you draw.
  • The price you see is the total you pay, taxes included. Payment by card, handled by Stripe.
  • The map is reference material, not a legal boundary survey. Check the data before you build on it.
  • If the build fails technically, you are refunded automatically.

1. Who is selling

The seller is GeoAnvil AS, org. no. 938 139 962, with registered office in Stord, Norway, registered in the Norwegian Register of Business Enterprises ("we", "GeoAnvil"). These terms cover purchases of maps on this website. Buying requires an account. You can buy as a private person, which makes you a consumer under Norwegian law, or on behalf of a company, which makes it a business purchase. That distinction matters for the right of withdrawal, see section 6.

2. The product

A GeoAnvil map is a digital project base generated automatically from public geodata for the area you draw: 3D terrain, buildings, roads, water, georeferencing and parcel data where available, delivered as files such as IFC, DXF and GPKG in the coordinate and height reference shown before purchase. The exact contents are listed in the map picker before you buy and on the help page. Sources and licences are on Data sources.

The map mirrors public registers, whose quality and freshness vary. It is not a legal boundary determination, not survey documentation and not a geotechnical assessment. See section 8.

3. Price and payment

Prices are shown in your local currency and are the full amount you pay — the total is always visible before you confirm. Where value added tax or an equivalent sales tax applies to your purchase, it is included in that price and itemised on your receipt. Payment is by card at checkout, processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.

4. Ordering and delivery

The map starts building when payment is confirmed, and normally finishes within minutes. You download it from My maps or import it through a plugin. If a public data source is unavailable, the build retries automatically; if it cannot complete within our delivery window, the purchase is refunded in full, automatically.

5. What you may use it for

You get a perpetual, non-exclusive right to use the delivered map in your own projects, commercial ones included, and to share it with project partners.

The open data underneath keeps its own licences. CC BY 4.0, NLOD 2.0, ODbL 1.0 and the Copernicus DEM licence reach you directly from the licensors, not from us. Nothing in these terms takes away, limits or adds conditions to what those licences permit you to do with that data, and where anything here conflicts with one of them, the licence wins. The credit file included with every map carries the exact source statements and disclaimers those licences require, and must remain with the data when you pass it on.

The restriction below covers only our own contribution — the processing, structuring and modelling GeoAnvil adds on top of the open data: you may not resell that processed model as a standalone product, and you may not build a competing map delivery service on it. This restriction never travels with the open data itself.

Access to the database. Where a delivered map contains data licensed under the Open Database License, we offer you the whole of that data in a machine-readable open format — the file gis/kartpakke.gpkg is included with the delivery for exactly this purpose — or, if you prefer, a description of the alterations we made to the original database. Both are free of charge: email post@geoanvil.com with your order number.

6. Right of withdrawal

If you buy as a private person you are a consumer, and you have 14 days to withdraw from the purchase under the Norwegian Cancellation Act (angrerettloven). The period runs from the day the contract is concluded. You do not have to give a reason.

How to withdraw. Send us an unambiguous message before the deadline: email post@geoanvil.com with your order number, or fill in the standard withdrawal form below and send it to the same address. It is enough that you send the message before the 14 days are up. We refund the full amount within 14 days of receiving it, to the payment method you used.

Digital content delivered at once. A map starts building as soon as payment is confirmed. At checkout you give your express consent to delivery beginning inside the withdrawal period, and you acknowledge that the right of withdrawal is then lost once delivery has begun. Under the Cancellation Act that right only falls away when all of the following are in place: your express consent, your acknowledgement, delivery actually begun, and our confirmation of the agreement sent to you on a durable medium. As long as one of them is missing, the right of withdrawal stands and we honour it.

Personal subscriptions. You can withdraw within 14 days of starting a new subscription, including a free trial. We refund subscription payments in full without deducting used quota. Withdrawal ends the subscription immediately; maps already delivered stay yours. Use “Withdraw from contract” under My account → Billing, the form below, or any other clear statement. We refund the original payment method without a fee, without undue delay and within 14 days of receiving your withdrawal. Renewals do not start a new withdrawal period. To stop only future renewals, cancel in the billing portal. Statutory extensions and other consumer rights remain available.

Privatabonnement. Du kan angre innen 14 dager etter inngåelse av et nytt abonnement, også ved gratis prøveperiode. Vi tilbakebetaler abonnementsbetalinger uten fradrag for brukt kvote. Angring avslutter abonnementet straks.

Business purchases have no statutory right of withdrawal.

7. If something is wrong

If a map has a defect, contact us at post@geoanvil.com with your order number. We rebuild the map or refund it. Complaints follow Norwegian consumer law for consumers.

8. Liability

The map is reference material built on public sources. You are responsible for verifying the data before it is used for design, applications or construction. Our liability is limited to the price you paid for the map, except where mandatory law says otherwise. We are not liable for indirect losses such as delays or lost profits.

9. Intellectual property

The generation pipeline, the website and the plugins are ours. The open data remains subject to its own licences. Your delivered map is yours to use as described in section 5.

10. Law and disputes

Norwegian law applies. For business customers, the courts serving the seller's registered place of business — Stord, Norway — are the agreed legal venue. Consumers keep the venue protections of Norwegian procedural law and can also bring complaints to the Norwegian Consumer Authority. We may update these terms; the version at the time of purchase applies to that purchase.

11. How an order is placed, stored and corrected

The technical steps. You draw an area in the map picker and see the contents and the total price. You continue to the order step, where you confirm what you are buying. You are then sent to Stripe to pay. The contract is concluded when your payment is confirmed; the map starts building immediately after, and you reach it from My maps.

Correcting input errors. Until you confirm payment you can go back and change everything: redraw or move the area, change the coordinate system, and change or remove any details you have entered. Nothing is ordered until the payment step is completed.

Storage and access. We store the order — what you bought, the price, and the version of these terms that applied — with your account. You can read it at any time on My maps, and these terms stay published on this page. The version in force at the time of your purchase is the one that applies to it.

Language. The contract is concluded in English, and these terms are available in English on this page.

Codes of conduct. We are not subject to any industry code of conduct for online sales.
